Fine Art Print FAQs
Created in 2019. Artwork Dimensions (w x h x d): 20 x 30 x 3 in. "Loom" is a work that employs decollage as a form of visual resistance, speaking to the violence of representation enacted by the mass media in its semiotic reinforcement of gender norms, sexuality, and beauty standards. Through the use of this technique, the work dismantles and reconfigures images from magazines and advertisements, exposing the ways in which the female body is objectified and commodified by the forces of capitalism. The work critiques the state of the spectacle, which perpetuates body dysmorphia and low self-esteem by reducing a woman's worth to her waistline. Historically, the female body has been a site where cultural and social perversions have been inscribed, and "Loom" seeks to subvert these dominant narratives by reclaiming the gaze and offering new, empowering expressions of identity.
