Jim Nista is a generative artist and creative technologist whose Code Paintings—large-scale, painterly works featuring flowers, landscapes, and saturated color—are built entirely from code, producing ever-evolving visuals that build, dissolve, and regenerate, never repeating exactly.

Nista's practice bridges traditional oil painting and software engineering. He writes JavaScript and GLSL shader code that generates primitive shapes—flowers, leaves, landscapes—and renders them as loose, expressive paint strokes in real time. Each composition builds, lingers, and destroys itself, cycling continuously through shifting palettes and moods tied to the time of day and season. His Immersive Collaborations extend this further, letting viewer motion feed directly back into the creative code.

Nista founded the LA creative technology studio Insteo, which was acquired by Almo, before launching his current boutique visual agency. His work was featured at the Sixteen:Nine Mixer at InfoComm, displayed across a curved LED wall measuring 155 feet wide and 26 feet tall. He has also exhibited through the Long Beach Walls Art Renzei Festival (2025) and has deployed long-running generative installations for architectural and corporate AV clients.
