Ilaria Cortesi
Originally from Italy, Ilaria is a self-taught illustrator and collagist currently based in Shanghai, China. She started making art at a young age and rediscovered it recently while juggling a full-time office job and single parenthood, seeking a creative outlet. Since then, she has adopted digital illustration and collage as a means of personal and social liberation and as a critical lens to look at stereotypical views and representations of society and individuals. Drawing inspiration from music, society, literature, ukio-e and sci-fi, she turns thoughts and feelings into surreal images. The results are dreamy sci-fi landscapes and punchy images characterized by vibrant color and paper-like textures that are sometimes thought-provoking, sometimes playful and cheesy.
