Diego Anaya
Born in México, Diego Anaya was an apprentice at Guillermo Canseco’s studio in Monterrey. This first experience was definitive and lead him to continue learning a diverse of art disciplines like painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, and performance. He is very much into color and material. The predominant elements used in his work are fabrics, fire, stain, metal and coal. Nowadays, he is doing sculpture, artists books, and asymmetrically flat art pieces that he presents as contemporary reliquaries.
Recent residents include the ALAS Residency - ALAS Atelier + Artspace - Frankfurt, Germany, and El Ganzo Art Residency in Los Cabos, México. Recent exhibits include SDCPHMRMS at Galería Larrazabal - Cuenca, Ecuador. Libros Arte Objeto XIX Edición at Espacio cultural Rancho Tecomate - Edo Mex. Mex., and 7 on 7 - BBFL Gallery - New York, US. He lives and works in New York and México.
From the Artist... Art is a violent passion. When I say violent, I describe the internal force with which I believe, as I think, how I express myself, and how I live my life. Each material, each stroke, each process, and each object used in my work helps to establish a link between the viewer and myself.
