Yuyo

Yuyo is a Chilean-Canadian paper artist specializing in quilling. Her work transforms a humble, democratic material into layered compositions of calm, quiet depth, and gentle cultural resistance.

Introduced to weaving at age six — needles fashioned from nails — she carried that tactile sensibility across borders when she relocated to Canada in 2019. During the pandemic, quilling emerged as a meditative anchor, a way to slow down and stay connected to her cultural roots. Her process is deliberate and repetitive, coiling paper into form through patience and intuition, finding meaning even in material already used.

Since establishing her practice in Toronto, Yuyo has refined her craft and built a community around paper art's quiet possibilities. Her pieces invite a pause — where something simple reveals something enduring — and have earned recognition for their handmade integrity and subtle emotional depth.
