STARE is an artist inspired by the "stylewriting" movement of the late '60s. A Canadian pioneer of this style, he preserves its aesthetics while pushing boundaries to make the public art form accessible and appreciated by a wider audience.

He created his first large-scale mural in 2007, a trailblazing moment for the style in Montreal. He presented his first solo exhibition, Star d’un soir, in 2013, which sought to immortalize the ephemeral history of the city’s avant-garde public art. With 30 years of practice, the recognition he has earned from peers and institutions has allowed his work to travel internationally through public art projects and exhibitions across several countries.

In STARE’s works, glyphs are treated as autonomous entities where sketches, textures, and lines become fundamental elements of the composition. His art is inspired by its surroundings, seeking to interact with architecture through either enlivening contrasts or a mindful, contextual balance. The use of public space and the dialogue between his pieces and passersby are integral to his views on the democratization of art.

In his studio practice, he forges a connection between his paintings and the urban environment by integrating architectural elements directly into his pieces. Materials like concrete, plaster, brick, and even vegetation are used as mediums, reproducing the textures of the structures that habitually house his work.
