Sandman

Sandman is a Montreal-based illustrator and visual artist whose work is defined by bold linework, high-contrast colour, and a playful cast of surreal characters that feel equally at home in fine art and commercial design.

Rooted in a lifelong practice shaped by a family of professional illustrators and painters, Sandman developed a self-taught approach that gives his style its distinctive edge. For digital work, he begins with physical sketches, scans them into Photoshop, refines composition, then finalizes linework before moving into colour. For his physical paintings, he works with recycled materials—sourcing old frames and re-stretching fresh canvas over them—building up thick layers of paint to create texture, then working with strong pigments, clean lines, and high-contrast colour to bring each piece to life.

Over the past seven to eight years, Sandman has built a client base spanning brewing, print, and commercial illustration. His work includes label design for Brasserie Boréale (in collaboration with Sir John Brewing Co.) and La Knowlton Co., event poster design, screen print illustration, and branded apparel—growing organically through word of mouth and an expanding roster of commissions and collaborations.
