Jarmila Kostliva

Jarmila Kostliva is a Canadian painter and mixed media artist whose biomorphic abstractions bridge the visible and invisible — fusing cellular forms, psychological landscapes, and layered color into compositions that are as intellectual as they are visceral.

Originally from Prague and trained at the College of Fine and Applied Arts in the Czech Republic and Concordia University in Montreal, Kostliva draws on a lifelong background in dance and theatre to infuse her work with rhythmic tension and performative energy. Working in oil, acrylic, and mixed/new media, she builds surface through intuitive gesture and structured layering — treating pigment and form as carriers of metaphoric meaning that connect contemporary experience to the subconscious rhythms of memory and identity.

Kostliva's work has been exhibited internationally across Canada, the United States, Europe, South America, and Brazil, including a feature at the Museo do Amanhã in Rio de Janeiro. She is a multiple ArtSlant Prize Showcase winner, a Grand Prix de Paris laureate, and has received recognition from the City of Miami and the French Ministry of Culture.
